Eric Paul Tishler
1960 - 2004

The family is saddened to report Eric Paul Tishler's passing at Castle Rock in Boulder Colorado on Wednesday, August 18th 2004. Only 44 years old, Eric achieved major technical rock and ice climbs at EI Capitan, CA, Cirque of the Towers in WY as well as Mount Ranier. His travels to Europe included climbs at the Matterhorn Mtn. and others in Italy and England. He leaves his loving parents Sheila and Irving Tishler, brothers Mitchell and Jason, daughter Jessica age 6, and his best friend and partner Cindy Arminio, nephew Bryce Tishler, and nieces Brielle, Jenna and Aleah Tishler. Eric loved life to its fullest, touching old and young alike, but mostly the young ones with his humor, wit, jokes and sillys. His nieces and nephews coined the name "Uncle Icicle" because of his ice climbing passion.
Had Eric not met with this tragic accident this would have been the start of his life-long dream "to move out west someday. Somewhere I could just step out my back door and begin an adventure without having to climb on a plane or plan a vacation. But until then"…….. Eric's career opportunities and devotion to his family prohibited this realization. It was for only too short a time, just a brief two days that he lived his dream. Another quote from Eric's website follows: "At my age I have no intention of slowing down or becoming the proverbial middle aged couch potato. Indeed, I am inspired by some of the legends of our sport. Men like Fritz Wiessner and Hans Kraus both climbed till their later years. Eric was driven by his love of the outdoors and appreciation of nature. He was taken from us in a place he most wanted to be - Colorado, his passion will remain with him forever.
A Norwalk High School graduate, class of 1978, as well as the University of Connecticut, School of Engineering in 1983. Eric's love of music led him to original keyboard compositions as well as admirer of contemporary Jazz. He was a ferocious reader, particularly science fiction and wrote several children's books along with stories of his rock and ice climbs. Serious backpacking and photography of nature were other very strong interests. Visit Eric's website at www.tishler.net/eric/vertical.htm to read of his numerous adventures, and accomplishments. (Note - you are encouraged to write your comments at his site - Eric's parents will receive your impressions with gratitude)
